Have some Memory...
Harvest Jam... 95' 96' & 97'
Back in the day when the S.E. music scene in Portland OR. was bloooming, we we're stormed by a wave of creativity. Bands such as the Tree Frogs, Higher Ground, Calobo, Haymaker, Skin Horse, The Willies, Nancy, The Dan Reed Network, Lizard, Glass Chunk, Robert Rude and His Attitude, The Dharma Bums, The Boys Next Door, The Trance Plants, Village Spirit Marimba, Brothers of the Baladi, Children of Paradise, the Bobby Tores Group, Land of the Blind and Others, we're setting the stage for a culture counter-spin. Musicians such as Charlie Nanos, James Schroeder, Laurie Sexton (Alchemy), John Congdon, Fred Stephenson, Jeff Hagarty & John Henry Bourke, we're spiraling heart-song creativity to inspire a generation. The cross pollination that was occuring between the beatnik hippie's in S.E. Hawthorne district, and the diverse influences from the Afrikan American drum and dance communities of N.E. Portland, gave rise to what has since been known as the Harvest Jam. The event was a spin off moment shared on some private land held at the base of Mt. Hood in 94'. Dan Crow, Jason Gibson, Lucky Jorgensen and Friends, remodeled an old barn to host the Tree Frogs and Pseudo Hippies. One good time generates another, and the next year we found ourselves at Silver Falls State Park under the Harvest Moon. The 97' Jam... Chris Steel and David Bram foculised a volunteer crew from Multnomah Cable Television and over 40 hours of live video was captured. Since then, Jason has been producing broadcast quality media through staff assistance at MetroEast Access TeleVision. Prior to our arrival the park rangers had yet to consider special events as a source of park revenue. Now there are at least three annual spin off events including the "Mid Summer Pagan Faire." The drummer image was created by Maynard Demmon from I~Mark Designs and was designed to appeal to a growing "granola" scene that was occuring at the time down at the Portland Saturday Market.
